We are here for Victoria families
Pathway Legal was born in Victoria. Our founder, Val Hemminger, has practised BC family law on Vancouver Island for over 30 years, and this city is where she built the firm, shaped its values, and decided that families going through separation deserved something better than a cold, adversarial legal process.
Our Victoria office, located at 206-310 Wale Road in Colwood, serves families across Greater Victoria, including Saanich, Oak Bay, Esquimalt, Langford, and Colwood. We also meet with clients across Vancouver Island and throughout BC by secure video, so getting experienced family law advice does not require a trip across town.
We are a resolution-first firm. That means our goal on every file is to help your family reach a final separation agreement as efficiently, affordably, and peacefully as possible. We have seen what prolonged litigation does to families. We do not recommend it lightly, and we work hard to make sure it is never the only option you feel you have.

Family law services in Victoria
Separation and divorce
Whether your separation is recent or long overdue, we help Victoria families understand their legal rights and options from the very first conversation. We handle both uncontested and contested divorces in BC, and we bring more than 30 years of Island experience to every file.
Parenting arrangements
Children's wellbeing is at the centre of every parenting decision we help families make. We work with you to build a parenting plan that is realistic, durable, and focused on what your children actually need, not just what looks good on paper.
Child support
BC child support is calculated under federal guidelines and tied to income. We help you understand what applies to your situation, whether you are the paying or receiving parent, and we revisit arrangements when income or circumstances change.
Spousal support
Spousal support is one of the most fact-specific areas of family law. The right outcome depends on the length of your relationship, each person's financial situation, and what the future looks like for both of you. We give you a clear and honest picture of what is realistic.
Property division
BC's Family Law Act governs how property and debt are divided after separation. From the family home to pensions to business interests, we help Victoria families understand what they are entitled to and work toward a fair outcome without unnecessary conflict or delay.
Collaborative family law
Collaborative law is one of our most powerful tools for families who want to resolve their matter without court. Both parties retain their own lawyers and commit to a structured, respectful process designed to produce a final separation agreement on your own terms. Pathway Legal has deep experience in collaborative practice.
Mediation support
Pathway Legal recommends that clients bring their lawyer to mediation. We prepare you thoroughly, attend with you, and make sure you have experienced legal guidance at every stage, so you are never negotiating alone.
Unbundled legal services
Not every situation requires full representation. We offer unbundled legal services for clients who need advice, document review, or support on specific issues, at a cost that reflects the actual scope of the work.

Pathway Legal was founded by Val Hemminger, a Victoria family lawyer with over 30 years of BC practice. Val built the firm on a single conviction: that families going through separation deserve legal support that is practical, human, and genuinely focused on helping them reach a final separation agreement, not on prolonging conflict for its own sake. That conviction has shaped every hire, every client relationship, and every decision the firm has made since the beginning.
