Family Law Lawyer
Contract | Hybrid | BC-wide

Job type: Full-time, Contract, or Permanent  |  Location: Hybrid remote across BC  |  Optional in-person: Victoria, Surrey, Nanaimo

Are you the lawyer we have been looking for?

: Journey presiding over a boardroom of sunglasses-wearing dogs under a nameplate reading "The Cool Counsel.

You love the craft of family law. You are good at it. But somewhere along the way, the chaos of your current firm started eating your lunch, your evenings, and possibly your will to live.

Here is the deal: at Pathway Legal, we built the systems, so you don't have to. Quality leads come to you. Admin is handled. Mentorship is real and daily. And nobody is going to ask you to work late on a Friday because they forgot to plan ahead.

If that sounds like something your nervous system wants, keep reading.

What makes Pathway Legal different

  • Clear systems that actually work for the boring stuff. You get to focus on the client work. We use Clio and cloud-based everything. Step-by-step case progression protocols so if you get stuck, you get unstuck fast. If you have spent years wishing your firm would just fix that one thing, we probably already did.
  • Daily mentorship so you are not stuck. Our principal lawyer has 30+ years of BC family law experience and shows up every day for the team. This is not mentorship-in-theory. It is mentorship in practice.
  • Transparent billing that aligns with our ethics. Earn a great living and feel good about it. Flat fees where possible. No unreasonable and soul-sucking billable-hour targets. We show up for our clients because we are not exhausted all the time. And, of course, our clients trust us because we earn it.
  • Dispute resolution is the default, not the exception. Court sucks. You can guide families in a much BETTER way. We require mediation, collaborative law, and negotiation training for every lawyer on the team. We also recommend clients bring their lawyers to mediation. Court is the last resort, not the first reflex.
  • A working culture that is actually kind and we mean it. We screen out bullies, narrow thinkers, and the chronically unkind. Protecting the team is not optional at Pathway Legal.

What we offer

Journey wearing gold aviator sunglasses with a confident smile, teal collar and paw tag visible against a warm cream background.
  • Generous 50%+++ fee split on collected billings, with transparent terms and zero fine-print surprises. Your success is our success.
  • Quality client leads and initial consultations, delivered to you.
  • Administrative, billing, and intake support so you can focus on the actual legal work.
  • Hybrid and remote flexibility across BC (your home office is fine)
  • Optional in-person desk space in Victoria, Surrey, or Nanaimo
  • Extended health, dental, vision, and flexible scheduling for longer-term roles
  • Daily connection and mentorship.
  • Company events that are actually fun (fun, inspiring, and silliness to be had by everyone).

This opportunity is for you if

  • You are licensed to practice family law in British Columbia
  • You follow established systems and protocols with care and consistency (not because you are told to, but because it matters to our clients and to you, for your long term health and happiness
  • You are comfortable with high-conflict matters when necessary, but you are genuinely settlement-minded
  • You refuse to advance positions that harm children, enable bullying, or stretch ethics
  • You are open-minded, inclusive, and want to work with other members of our team.
  • You are a member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia

This role is not for you if

  • You avoid court entirely or, on the other end, you prefer to litigate most matters regardless of the facts (we need people who can read the room)
  • You are unkind to staff or colleagues, especially when you think nobody is watching
  • You engage in unethical conduct or discriminatory behaviour of any kind
  • You are narrow-minded, racist, sexist, homophobic, or carry other low-vibration energy into a workplace where real families are already hurting (blech)

If any of those are you, Pathway Legal is genuinely not the right place for you to hang your hat. That is okay. Better to know now.
