Legal Assistant / Law Office Administrative Support

We believe there is a better way to do family law

One rooted in compassion, clarity, and results. One where the people who work here actually enjoy coming in. And one where the admin team is treated like the essential humans they are, not an afterthought.

We are Pathway Legal, a BC family law firm doing this differently. We guide people through divorce, parenting matters, and other family transitions with a client-first approach, a lot of heart, and yes, a sense of humour. Because life is hard enough, and lightness is a gift.

If the description below sounds exactly like you, we would love to know you exist. We keep a short list of people we would genuinely want to meet when the right opportunity opens up. If that is something you are interested in, reach out. We read every message we get, and we actually care who is on the other end of it.

What this role looks like

Legal and administrative support

  • Assist lawyers with day-to-day legal tasks and administrative duties.
  • Maintain and organize electronic client files and case materials.
  • Prepare and manage correspondence, court forms, and legal documents.
  • Schedule court dates and liaise with opposing counsel (calmly and professionally, even when they are not making it easy).
  • Handle sensitive information with the level of care it deserves.
  • Support the broader team with whatever else needs doing, because in a small firm, “that’s not my job” is rarely the right answer.

What you bring

  • Education: A diploma, certificate, or degree is preferred. Equivalent experience absolutely counts.
  • Experience: Previous work as a legal assistant or administrative professional in a legal setting.
  • Family law familiarity: Preferred but not required. We will train the right person.
  • Systems and protocols: You follow them willingly, because you understand why they exist.
  • Organization: Strong attention to detail because some of the lawyers you work with lack it!
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills. Clients in distress need clarity, not jargon.
  • Tech: Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Calm presence: Especially when supporting clients through emotional moments. This is family law. Emotions happen.

Bonus points if you are

  • Experienced with Clio and/or DivorceMate (we use both and will quietly love you if you already know them).
  • A natural problem-solver who can anticipate what needs doing before being asked.
  • Someone who thrives in a fast-paced but genuinely supportive team environment.
  • A dog person, or at minimum dog-tolerant (Journey has opinions and she is not shy about them).

What we offer when the time comes

  • Competitive hourly wage
  • Monthly bonus, because we believe in sharing the wins.
  • Extended health, dental, and vision care.
  • On-site parking (yes, real parking, in Victoria, we know).
  • A collaborative, friendly workplace where people actually like each other.
  • Opportunities for growth and genuinely meaningful work.
  • Journey, our firm ambassador and unofficial morale officer.

Who thrives at Pathway Legal

  • People who are kind by default, and it shows.
  • People who follow systems and protocols without making it a whole thing.
  • People who can hold space for a distressed client at 9am and pivot to a deadline at 9:15am without blinking.
  • People who want to grow, are coachable, and mean it.
  • People with a sense of humour, because the work is real and sometimes heavy, and lightness is how we carry it together.
